Welcome!

The Trustees of the National Bible Association have designated Chicago as it's 2012 National Bible City. Led by Doris Christopher, Chairman of the Chicago Host Committee and a National Bible Association Trustee, several events have been planned to "encourage everyone to read the Bible."

The National Bible Association was created by a group of business leaders as a nonsectarian organization reaching out to all people of a Judeo Christian heritage during a difficult and uncertain time in our American history right before we entered WWII.

Today, in the difficult economic times that many Ameicans are facing, the Bible can once again be that source of hope and encouragement. Our National Bible City initiative was created as a way to focus on one city annually with this message.

We have several events and initiatives planned for Chicago this year.

NATIONAL DAY OF THE BIBLE
Monday, November 19th, 2012 at noon

Held each year on the Monday of Thanksgiving Week, business, civic and religious
leaders in cities and towns in America will gather in a public place and read the Bible
publicly. In Chicago, plans are under way for area business, political and religious leaders to do this also.

MEDIA OUTREACH

In conjunction with the American Bible Society a digital media campaign is being created. Chicagoans will be encouraged through a downtown digital billboard about the value of reading the Bible.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Through the use of websites, Twitter and Facebook pages a continuing conversation about the scripture is our goal. Reaching out to Protestants and Evangelicals, in conjunction with the American Bible Society, Chicagoans will be encouraged to join the discussion about the Bible. In conjunction with the Archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Chicago, a social media outreach to Catholics will run concurrently with the one for Protestants. Pat McCaskey, one of the co owners of the Chicago Bears is involved with this project.
